Maternity Benefit is a flat-rate weekly payment of EUR 299 (2026 rate), paid by the Department of Social Protection for 26 weeks. It is not earnings-related. Eligibility requires at least 39 weeks of PRSI contributions paid in the 12 months immediately before the first day of maternity leave (or an alternative condition). Maternity Benefit is liable to Income Tax but NOT to USC or PRSI.
