Calculation assumptions
- Two risks only: supplementary welfare cover (health costs, sick leave, disability, death) and cover against involuntary job loss. Voluntary RETIREMENT contributions fall under a separate, self-standing cap, computed by the « Plafond de déduction PER » calculator.
- The profit to enter is the one before deduction of the voluntary contributions, excluding long-term professional capital gains and losses, before the new-business allowances and without offsetting carried-forward losses. A loss-making year is entered as a negative figure: it does not cancel the deduction, it brings it down to the floor.
- A single insured person is assumed: the caps apply to the contributions you enter, without distinguishing who paid them. Where the spouse is NOT a co-operator of the business, the taxable profit their contributions are set against is the very one that is yours, and the tax doctrine then applies a SINGLE deduction cap or floor to the sum of the contributions paid by the operator and by the spouse — not one cap each. Enter the combined total in that case, otherwise the deductible share shown is over-stated. Two co-operators, by contrast, each have their own cap or floor, computed on the share of profit matching their rights.
- Contributions are attached to the financial year in which they are DUE, even if still unpaid at closing: they are then deducted as accrued liabilities. The exception set out by the same tax doctrine covers contracts insuring nothing but life-assurance risks — notably a retirement top-up — which this calculator excludes from the outset. So enter the contributions due for the year, not the cash actually paid out during it.
- A twelve-month financial year is assumed. The pro rata temporis adjustment of the annual social security ceiling, required for a shorter year or when the business ceases mid-year, is not modelled.
- The contract's own conditions are not checked: group insurance contract or voluntary scheme run by a social security fund, cover actually taken out, proof of payment through the insurer's yearly certificate. The calculation assumes eligible contributions, correctly split between risks.
- This is the regime of a self-employed person insuring themselves. Supplementary cover funded by an EMPLOYER for its employees obeys different caps, both social and tax, and is computed elsewhere.
- The tax saving is an estimate at the marginal rate you enter, held constant: it assumes the deduction does not move you into another band. The actual rate appears on your tax assessment, and the income-tax bands are carried by the income-tax scale calculator.
