Worked example
The scale applied to a base of €26,050
The first €12,450 are charged at 19 %, which gives €2,365.50; the next €7,750, up to €20,200, at 24 %, €1,860; the remaining €5,850 at 30 %, €1,755. The scale yields €5,980.50. Applied to an allowance of €5,550 it yields €1,054.50, and the withholding amount is the difference: €4,926.
Worked example
An electric car available 70 % of the time
The company buys a battery electric car for €30,000, taxes included, and hands it to its sales representative, who may use it privately 70 % of the time. The 20 % annual rule gives €6,000; the 30 % reduction brings that to €4,200; the private share, 70 %, leaves €2,940 of benefit in kind a year.
Practical case
Diego's first payslip
Diego works for Lucía's company on a permanent contract: €30,000 gross a year in twelve payments, under 65, with no children and no dependent spouse (situation 3) and no company car. Work out his monthly contributions, his withholding rate, the withholding and the net amount on each payslip, and the withholding the company will report for him on the modelo 111 of one quarter.
Hint: Start with the worker's four rates; then take contributions and other expenses off the pay, compare net income with the reduction threshold and apply the scale to both the base and the allowance.
Show the solution
Contributions: €30,000 × (4.70 + 1.55 + 0.10 + 0.15) % = €1,950 a year, €162.50 a month. Net income: €28,050, above €19,747.5, so no reduction. Base: 28,050 − 2,000 = €26,050. Scale: €5,980.50 on the base and €1,054.50 on the €5,550 allowance; withholding amount €4,926. The 43 % cap: 43 % × (30,000 − 15,876) = €6,073.32, not reached. Rate: 4,926 / 30,000 = 16.42 %. On a €2,500 payslip: withholding €410.50, net 2,500 − 162.50 − 410.50 = €1,927. Quarter: 3 × 410.50 = €1,231.50.
Answer: 16.42 %: €410.50 withheld and €1,927 net each month; €1,231.50 per quarter
