Practical case
How much support, how much left?
A master electrician has been unemployed since 1 March 2026; his unemployment benefit entitlement arose that day. He receives 1,800 euros a month and had twelve months of entitlement. After four months of benefit he applies and opens his business the following day. The chamber of crafts certifies viability, and both phases are approved. Count 30 days per month. Is the threshold met, how much support does he receive in total, and how many days of unemployment benefit remain for him, and until when?
Hint: Convert months into days. Only the first phase reduces the entitlement under section 148(1) no. 8 SGB III, and the four-year period of section 161(2) runs from when the entitlement arose.

Twelve months of 30 days make 360 days. After four months of benefit, 120 days are used, leaving 240 days at the start, more than the required 150. The first phase brings six times 2,100 euros, that is 12,600 euros. The second phase brings nine times 300 euros, that is 2,700 euros. Together that is 15,300 euros. The first phase uses up 180 days, leaving 60 days of entitlement. They can only be claimed as long as four years have not passed since the entitlement arose on 1 March 2026.
Answer: threshold met, €15,300 of support, 60 days left, usable until four years after 1 March 2026
