Objections, deadlines and deferral with German tax offices
The objection period runs from notification, not from the date printed on the notice, and an objection does not stop the payment: that is what suspension of enforcement is for, with its interest. The second module covers the applications that buy time: filing extensions, deferral of payment, adjustment of advance payments, plus interest on back taxes. The third covers the binding ruling before an arrangement and the binding assurance after a tax audit. Three modules with case studies worked on the statute itself.

Figures are tied to dated, sourced tax constants. A module whose rules have changed is flagged for review, and is unpublished automatically beyond 90 days.

By the end of this course, you can…
These outcomes are the modules' own: the promise cannot say anything the course does not teach.
- work out the end of the objection period from the date of notification, not from the date printed on the notice
- choose a form of objection that arrives and takes effect without failing on formalities
- recognise when a missing instruction on remedies or reinstatement still rescues a missed deadline
- apply for suspension of enforcement and budget for its interest before the dispute is decided
- recognise a warning of a worse outcome and weigh withdrawal against a written response
- tell a deadline for filing apart from a deadline for paying and choose the matching application for each
- use a filing extension even after the deadline has passed and know its limit for advised taxpayers
- keep deferral interest, interest on back taxes and the late-payment surcharge apart by rate and counting method
- use the adjustment of advance payments as the cheapest route when profits collapse
- distinguish a binding ruling from the general guidance the tax office gives
- structure an application so that it satisfies § 89(2) AO and the Tax Ruling Ordinance
- estimate the fee in advance, including the cases where none is charged
- recognise when a binding assurance after a tax audit is the right route instead of a ruling
- know the limits of both commitments: deviating facts, changes in the law and unlawfulness to the taxpayer's detriment
