Offsetting in the F24 form: which credits, which debts, and up to what cap

Worked example

Elena's June payment

Elena's company owes 9,000 euros of corporate income tax balance, 3,500 euros of wage withholdings and 2,500 euros of contributions, 15,000 euros in all. Assuming the 18,000-euro VAT credit is already usable, it offsets 15,000 euros in a zero-balance F24 sent through F24 web. The remaining 3,000 euros of credit stay available for later deadlines.

Practical case

The ceiling of a logistics company

A logistics SRL whose financial year matches the calendar year offset credits worth 1,740,000 euros in F24 forms between 1 January and 30 September 2026, and received no refunds through a tax account. In October it wants to settle 310,000 euros of debts with a tax credit. How much can it still offset in 2026, what happens if it files the form with the full 310,000 euros, and which channel must it use?

Hint: Subtract what has already been used from the annual cap, then ask what paragraph 2-ter says about a credit exceeding the maximum.

Show the solution

The cap is 2,000,000 euros per calendar year. With 1,740,000 euros already used, the room left is 2,000,000 − 1,740,000 = 260,000 euros. The credit the company wants to use exceeds that room by 310,000 − 260,000 = 50,000 euros. Filed as it stands, the credit breaks the cap and the F24 is rejected, leaving every debt in it unpaid. The sensible course is to offset 260,000 euros and pay the other 50,000 in cash, filing through the agency's online services because the form carries a credit.

Answer: 260,000 euros of room; beyond it the form is rejected; file via F24 web or online
