Sources and assumptions

Calculation assumptions

  • Passenger cars with a reciprocating engine first registered on or after 1 January 2021 only (KraftStG s. 9(1) no. 2 letter c). Older vehicles are taxed at other rates.
  • Fully electric vehicles are exempt under KraftStG s. 3d for ten years from first registration, and no later than 31 December 2035; they are not calculated here.
  • The tax is rounded down to the full euro under KraftStG s. 11(5); both components are shown to the cent.
  • The figure is the tax for a full year, with no seasonal plates, disability relief or surcharge for half-yearly or quarterly payment.
