Italian tax credit for life, disability and long-term care insurance
Premiums for insurance against death or permanent disability of at least 5 % give a 19 % IRPEF deduction on up to EUR 530 a year, raised to EUR 750 for life cover protecting someone with a severe disability. For long-term care cover the cap is EUR 1,291.14, less the life and disability premiums already counted. Above EUR 120,000 of income the deduction shrinks.

Calculation assumptions
- Rules of TUIR article 15(1)(f) and 15(3-bis) as in force for 2026, carried over from 2027 into article 14 of the new Consolidated Income Tax Act (Legislative Decree 117/2026). The insurer must have no right to withdraw from the contract.
- Life and disability premiums count up to EUR 530; premiums protecting someone with a severe disability top that up to EUR 750 in all; long-term care premiums count up to EUR 1,291.14 minus the life and disability premiums already allowed.
- If you enter your total income (leaving out the income of your main home and its appurtenances), the deduction is multiplied by (240,000 − income) / 120,000 once income is above EUR 120,000.
- Not covered: natural-disaster home policies, premiums your employer already deducted through payroll (they use up the same caps, so subtract them from what you enter), the overall ceiling on deductible expenses above EUR 75,000 of income, and whether your gross IRPEF can absorb the deduction.
