Taxing German investment income
Investment income has a tariff of its own: 25 % instead of progression. The price sits in section 20(9) — the saver's allowance of 1,000 € replaces actual related expenses, whose deduction is excluded. Plus the distribution of the joint 2,000 € between spouses and the exemption order, without which the bank withholds from the first euro. The second module covers the three loss pots, in which share losses stand alone, and the favourability test, which can only be applied for uniformly across all income. Two modules with case studies worked on the statute itself.

Figures are tied to dated, sourced tax constants. A module whose rules have changed is flagged for review, and is unpublished automatically beyond 90 days.

By the end of this course, you can…
These outcomes are the modules' own: the promise cannot say anything the course does not teach.
- state the separate rate for investment income and its exceptions
- apply the saver's allowance, including for jointly assessed spouses
- explain why actual related expenses are not deductible
- distinguish the settling effect of withholding from the duty to file
- apply the offsetting restrictions of section 20(6) in their order
- know what the bank's loss certificate is needed for
- apply for the favourability test and observe that it is all or nothing
- recognise the cases in which the 25 percent precisely does not apply
