Domestic workers in Italy: what a household employer must do
Hiring a cleaner, nanny or live-in carer in Italy: notifying INPS by midnight on the day before work starts, paying contributions every quarter with a pagoPA notice, the thirteenth-month payment, holidays, notice periods and severance pay, and when the family voucher booklet is enough. Then the employer's tax side: deducting your own share of contributions up to €1,549.37 and the 19% credit for carers of a person who is not self-sufficient. Two modules with case studies, 2026 rules.

2026 rules — verified on September 25, 2026
Figures are tied to dated, sourced tax constants. A module whose rules have changed is flagged for review, and is unpublished automatically beyond 90 days.
By the end of this course, you can…
These outcomes are the modules' own: the promise cannot say anything the course does not teach.
- Understand who the household employer is and which notices are owed to INPS, with their deadlines
- Organise the quarterly payment of contributions using the pagoPA payment notice
- Work out the thirteenth-month payment and the value of one day of paid holiday for a domestic worker
- Find the notice period owed when the family dismisses the worker or the worker resigns
- Set up the severance pay calculation and recognise when the family voucher booklet is enough
- Tell apart the deduction for contributions paid for a domestic worker and the tax credit for carers
- Apply the €1,549.37 cap to the employer's own share of contributions only
- Check the conditions of the 19% credit: lack of self-sufficiency, a €2,100 spending cap and income up to €40,000
- Calculate the overall saving with the 2026 IRPEF income tax rates
- Prepare the paperwork and check the figures in the pre-filled tax return
