German state pension age — when does your standard old-age pension start?

Anyone born in 1964 or later reaches the standard retirement age at 67. For those born 1947 to 1963 it rises step by step from 65 years and one month to 66 years and ten months. The pension starts in the month after the age is reached — or in the birthday month itself for people born on the first of a month.

Sources and assumptions

Calculation assumptions

  • The general qualifying period of five years (SGB VI s. 50) is assumed to be met.
  • The claim is made by the end of the third calendar month after the age is reached; a later claim delays the start to the month of the claim (SGB VI s. 99(1) sentence 2).
  • Early old-age pensions (for long-term or very long-term insured people, or severely disabled people) are not calculated.
