Italian university fees tax credit (19%)

University fees give a 19% credit: on everything you paid at a state university, and up to the cap set each year by ministerial decree at a non-state university. Above EUR 120,000 of income the credit tapers, reaching zero at EUR 240,000.

Sources and assumptions

Calculation assumptions

  • TUIR art. 15(1)(e), (3-bis) and (3-ter) as in force for tax year 2026, at a 19% rate.
  • For non-state universities the cap comes from the annual ministerial decree for each faculty, so you enter it yourself. Without a cap, the result is an upper bound.
  • The overall cap on deductible expenses above EUR 75,000 (art. 16-ter) and the EUR 440 cut above EUR 200,000 are flagged, not applied. The credit cannot exceed gross IRPEF.
